The location for many famous films, such as "Peau d'Ane" (Donkey Skin), "le Bossu" and "Fanfan la Tulipe", the chateau is a masterpiece of harmony which looks the same today as it did over 500 years ago.
During the tour of the chateau, which was classified as a historical monument in 1931, its owners will show you the defensive system, which includes wide moats and two double drawbridges still in working order.

Then, entering through the "Vestibule d'Honneur" or Hall of Honour, you will pass through the 18th century reception rooms before arriving at the large dining room (called the "Salle de Parlement" or Parliament Room) whose magnificent fireplace is decorated with fine stone lace. Prestigious receptions and evening events are still held beneath its elegant Angevin vaulted ceiling.

Continuing your tour by one of the chateau's 19 staircases, you will reach the famous "Salle des Gardes" or Room of the Guards: its coffered ceiling, which is the only one of its type, is divided into 24 blocks decorated in grisaille, some with characters, some with animals, accompanied by enigmatic and allegorical mottoes!
Can you see how the followers of the "Great Work" were preoccupied with the occult? Superb. This room alone makes the visit worthwhile.

Next you will be shown the Empire Room, which commemorates one of the family's ancestors, Marshal Soult; this was the lord of the manor's apartment, and it contains a superb four-poster bed of gilded wood. Then there is the 36-metre long great gallery, which has been transformed into a library holding more than 3000 volumes. At the end of the gallery there is the loggia, where the lord attended services celebrated in the Sainte-Anne Chapel. Its great sobriety and exceptional collection of the great age of religious art is unforgettable.

Its beauty and architectural interest led to the French Postal Service issuing a commemorative stamp in its honour, a very rare event for a private chateau.
